She needed to tell someone because she couldn't carry it alone anymore and she chose to tell me. His brothers and sister or dad hasn't been informed yet. She couldn't understand that I wasn't shocked by it. It doesn't change him as a person. He is still the same guy and I don't love him any less. In fact, the GL label sometimes seems a bit false when you consider the way that some gay men talk about lesbians. Vice versa too. But, despite that, it’s a meaningful one that serves a useful purpose. The LGBT label has its uses too but its limitations are apparent by the situations you describe. In this world which favours the norm and tends to think in black and white, it’s a term that is more readily accepted than having a plethora of smaller pressure groups.<BR/><BR/>andrea: You’re right of course. LGBT types do tend to gravitate towards certain areas like Amsterdam, Vancouver’s West End and Cape Town’s Green point. One T I know is quite happy to describe herself as "what's known as gay-friendly", but hasn't the least sense of kinship or community with Ls, Gs or Bs. Another T I know is quite the opposite, describing the LGBT community as her whanau (a Maori concept meaning an extended family group).<BR/><BR/>And most Bs I know are quite happy forging their own communities and identities which overlap with those of the Ls and Gs, as well as those of the mainstream, whilst maintaining an interesting and quite distinct energy and purpose.<BR/><BR/>The LGBT label always struck me as a bit "everyone but them straight folks".Qennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08690609559834656008noreply@blogger.com
