The Mousetrap

fusilli mouse
Two mice in the kitchen last night. Four traps were set. One dead mouse this morning. One mouse in packet of pasta this evening. Lucky mouse, squeamish me couldn't kill him (her?) and he got released outside near Prinsengracht canal.

I suppose he'll be back tomorrow evening. Better put the pasta away.

I feel very tempted to say one mousetrap is still going after 55 years but this one only lasted 11 minutes. Too corny, so I won't.

see, that's how my family knows I'm no longer Brazilian: I'm concerned for the safety of the mice in your neighbourhood. This one inside the fusilli bag looks like he's been caught at very silly point, to follow your earlier cricketing reference.

P.S. thanks for your comment on my page, very interesting stuff indeed.

I think you need to get or borrow a cat, that would soon sort out the mouse situation. Mice are not nice - they dribble urine as they run about - yuck, yuck, yuck! Kill the little f**kers say I, none of this humane trapping nonsense.
BTW I hope you don't mind but I have given a sort of verbal link to your superb carrot cake recipe on my blog. I tried to do a "proper" link but couldn't get it to work.

You might want to leave off serving pasta to your guests for the foreseeable future.

Tell the truth and shame the devil: Didn't it feel good to let the pasta mouse go?

Is this perhaps a good karma/bad karma balance? You're getting to satisfy your blood lust AND feel all warm and fluffy :-)

Hello from a fellow nomad b.t.w (thanks to Ed for the ref)

Edvard Moonke : I think you should rather be concerned about me and the way I’m being invaded by mice.

There’s an army of them out there!

herschelian: A cat would be ideal but I can’t borrow one and getting my own doesn’t make sense if I’m not going to live here more than 1-2 years.

I’m glad you loved the cake. If you need lessons on how to create links, let me know.

kyknoord: The mice are my guests.

Schokolade Madchen: It felt a lot better than seeing it being killed but it won’t stop me from trapping the rest of them. :-)

Amy: I like the way you think there. Ying and yang and all that. Welcome to my blog. Thanks Ed.

Its probably not what you want to hear, but that mouse is REALLY cute.

Maybe you should getone of those sonic mouse traps. It emits a ridiculously high pitched noise that we can't hear, but the mice hate.

As for the other Mouse-Trap, its run may have been going 55 years, but its the longest, most dull hour and a half of your life!

kyknoord: That's too cryptic for me!

beth: I couldn't agree with you more about its cuteness. All my good memories of Beatrix Potter came flooding back when I saw its black button eyes, twitching nose and ears, and, and, and... Which, of course, is why I let it go.

Although I have no compunction (well, not much) about using mousetraps, I'd far rather not have to do so at all. So if something like a sonic mousetrap will keep them away, that would be the perfect solution.

I'll have to look into it.

Well, about about a cat-share? That way you wouldn't have to worry about the feline needing re-homing when you leave A'dam...
I'm with Beth here, the first thing that popped into my head upon clapping eyes on the pics was "Aw, cute!". Then again, were my kitchen covered in mouse droppings, I may not be so sentimental!

That little furry mouse looks so nice, I think you did the right thing that you've released it.
